About Us

A Beautiful Occasion is a local team of passionate, highly qualified, and experienced florists and event coordinators, working solely within the Port Stephens region. Their days are filled with planning your perfect wedding and event, and love that each one is unique.  They deliver florist and styling services that incorporate your vision, and deliver this with a high level of sophistication, timeless style, and perfection.

 A Beautiful Occasion is the love child of Amy Mahony and Sara Gambrill, which began over 10 years ago in Port Stephens. The business has grown over the years and adapted to the ever-changing landscape of design, styling and staging of weddings and events. From humble beginnings in Nelson Bay, collecting wares in their garages at home, which their husbands just had to tolerate, to now being housed in a large industrial premises to hold their beautiful pieces, A Beautiful Occasion is now the region’s top wedding and event styling and floristry business and something they are incredibly proud of.

Together, Amy and Sara work to their strengths, both taking part in the consulting, design, and execution phase, delivering weddings and events of a high standard. They both have an eye for design and styling, on trend items and coordination of pieces to create impact.

A Beautiful Occasion are strong supporters in building local partnerships, supporting the local community and have a passion for empowering local people. Port Stephens is their home, a place where they live, work and are raising their own families in.

In 2022 we were lucky enough to win the Port Stephens Examiner Local Business Awards and we couldn't be prouder of ourselves, our family's and our team - what a road it has been over the last 10 years and we've loved every moment!

The Directors

Amy

Amy, a florist by trade, knows the importance that flowers have on an event. A big part of weddings and events is now the flowers, where there has been a significant shift from florals just being something that the bride carried down the aisle, to now being the link between colours, textures and theming allowing A Beautiful Occasion to showcase an important part of their business.

Sara

Sara’s background as a function coordinator for some of the country’s top hotels, allows her to help couples take a venue’s room from a blank canvas to an individual and breathtaking scene, all while maintaining professionalism and her effervescent personality. She knows how to work with venues to deliver weddings and events to the standard that only A Beautiful Occasion will accept and has a passion for creating events that you will remember forever.

Our Team

Hannah

Head Florist + Stylist

Hannah has been with A Beautiful Occasion for over 4 years, starting casually but quickly proving that we couldn’t be without her!  During her time with us, she has grown to become a vital part of the team, allowing her eye for style and passion for floristry to take over.  Hannah is always hands on with the execution of weddings and events, and is regularly seen with the team on event days as an onsite stylist and checking the final product.

Michelle

Office Manager

Starting as office administration, Michelle is now with the team 4 days a week keeping us all on track!  You might receive emails from her now and then, chasing up information or responding to enquiries, but she is always making sure every detail is confirmed and covered.  Having a background in business and customer service, Michelle makes sure that all of our clients are looked after, from the enquiry stage to after the event has been completed, bugging our clients for their beautiful photos, and of course feedback!

Ash

Trainee Florist

Ash started with us as a casual in our shopfront who brought a wealth of knowledge and experience in the retail space. We quickly realised that Ash was a force to be reckoned with as she took on all aspects of the business, and was offered an appreceship a few months later! Ash is a breath of fresh air with her quick humour, willingness to work within the team and her eagerness to learn. We are thrilled with the growth in the last 12 months, and we can't wait to see what happens over the next few years!

Rach

Events + Floral Assistant

Rach loves the creative aspects of her job. She is always on hand to put together bouquets, buttonholes and arrangements. She regularly treats us with her amazing baking skills, bringing in cakes and goods for morning tea, which are always finished with no leftovers! With everything she does, she has a smile on her face. She loves her husband and girls with all her heart, and always is ready to get in, and get the job done! You might see Rach on your wedding day; helping the rest of the team out and checking over the end product to make sure it’s always to our high standard!

We strongly believe our team is A Beautiful Occasion's greatest asset ... each of our team members plays an integral role in the execution of our booked weddings, events, daily floral deliveries and overall running of the business.
